THE CENTER FOR MEMORY DISORDERS OPENED ITS DOORS IN CENTRAL FLORIDA TO AID PATIENTS, CAREGIVERS AND FAMILIES

Central Florida's first independent medical center, the Center for Memory Disorders is devoted to patients with memory disorders, their caregivers and families. The Center is accepting patients for evaluation, diagnosis and treatment.

This 501(c)(3), not-for-profit center located at 3901 East Colonial Drive, Orlando, is the vision of N. Lois Adams whose own mother, Helen L. Littlefield, lived with Alzheimer's for many years. Adams knows first-hand the issues and needs of caring for a family member with a memory disorder. She cared for her mother until Littlefield's death, at well over the age of 90.

"It was my dream as a legacy to my mother to create an integrated approach to the diagnosis, treatment and support of patients with memory disorders through the use of professional services, cutting-edge therapies and caregiver respite," says Adams, a consulting clinical pharmacist and prominent leader in Central Florida medical community for more than 30 years.

"Caregivers, as well as their patients, need support when someone has a memory disorder," adds Adams, "and our team is dedicated to a comprehensive physical and holistic approach to the care and treatment of the patient and support of their caregiver and family."

Florida has one of the highest concentrations of elderly in the United States with some 2.8 million persons. In the Central Florida corridor (coast to coast) there are approximately 40,000 cases of Alzheimer's and related memory disorders with 20,000 cases estimated just in the tri-county area comprised of Orange, Osceola and Seminole counties.

Resources at the Center for Memory Disorders include qualified geriatricians, psychiatrists, neurologists, nurses, medical case workers, clinical coordinators, neuro-psychologists, and consulting pharmacists. These qualified professionals, along with multi-media diagnostic technology and testing techniques, combine efforts with other community resources for a totality of care.

Flu, pneumonic and Shingles immunizations are available at all times. Please call for an appointment. Current hours of the Center are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Appointments may be made by calling 407-447-5971. Medicare and most insurances are accepted.
